Musical Training

Dr. Pravin Gaonkar began his musical journey under the guidance of his father, the Late Shri Pandurang Gaonkar. He received formal classical training at Kala Academy, Goa, completing an 8-year diploma course (Sangeet Kushal) with distinction, followed by post-graduation (Sangeet Parangat) under Pt. Kamlakar Naik of the Agra Gharana.
He further refined his skills under the Late Pt. Prabhudev Sardar of the Agra and Jaipur Gharanas and continues advanced training with Padma Bhushan Pt. Ajoy Chakrabarty and Pt. Satyasheel Deshpande.
His training in light classical music is enriched through guidance from Padma Shri Pt. Suresh Wadkar. His repertoire spans khayal, thumri, dadra, abhang, natya sangeet, and bhaav sangeet.

Professional Work & Contributions

  • President, Swastik Cultural Association, Panaji — instrumental in promoting Indian classical music through concerts, workshops, and outreach.

  • Chief Organizer of Swaramangesh – Mast Dinanath Mangeshkar Memorial Classical Music & Dance Festival, a major cultural festival in Goa.

  • Dedicated to advancing Hindustani classical music education, mentoring young artists, and preserving gharana traditions.

  • Known for blending tradition with expressive innovation in performance and pedagogy.

  • Graded B-High Artist of All India Radio in Indian Classical Music.

  • Performed at Surashree Kesarbai Sangeet Samaroh (Kala Academy, Panaji) in 1994 and 2012.

  • Featured at Pt. Jitendra Abhisheki Samaroha in Goa, Pune, Aurangabad, Kolhapur.

  • Appeared at major national festivals across Ahmedabad, Udaipur, Indore, Mumbai.

  • Performed at the renowned Pune Ganesh Festival.
